I have so far avoided commenting on the Liberal Party leadership race and in particular the debate it has engendered about Québec and its status in confederation, but the debate has hit home in a more direct way when people I generally like start fighting with each other and creating further rifts in groups that (to me) have sadly lost cohesion over other issues.
An unfortunate example of this has occurred on a site that I consider to be a blogular ally, pogge. The thread starts with something that's not very interesting to me, which is th effect that the debate has had on the prospects of some of the candidates. But then it continues with a Québécoise Internet-friend of mine firing a shot across the bow:
The depth of anti-Québec bigotry even among many otherwise progressive people in English-speaking Canada really astounds me.
